Do you want to backpack at Northern Tier or Philmont?

The council's Venturing Officer's Association (VOA) will be offering a 3 part backpacking course for those Venturers, Sea Scouts, or Explorers who are interested in learning more about backpacking and how to plan a trek. This course will teach you safety, wilderness first aid, best practices, challenges on the trail, and trail navigation. We will have backpacking cooking, packing, and required gear demonstrations.

This course is free attend. We will be offering lunch during parts 1 and 2 of this course which will cost $5.00 a plate.


Course Dates

This course is broken up into 3 sections/parts.

(New) Part 1 - Saturday, April 8th from 9:00a - 2:00p will be an introduction to backpacking. This will be an in classroom event. Please bring your backpacking gear if you have it. This class will be at the American Legion Post 340, 8890 Ashland Ave, Penascola, FL 32534.

Part 2 - Saturday, May 6th from 9:00a - 4:00p will be navigation, cooking and first aid skills. Part 2 will have a short day hike with backpacking gear. This is a classroom and field event. This class will be at Spanish Trail Scout Reservation (STSR).

Part 3 - Friday-Sunday, June 2-4 will be a backpacking trip to Blackwater River State Park. This part of the course will be a 2 and 1/2 day backpacking trip.
